Mike Warde was named Bridgton Academy’s Director of Hockey and Head Junior Team Head Coach in the Spring of 2013. “The spirit and enthusiasm that has been shown by Headmaster Grady Vigneau and his staff to me and my family has been phenomenal. Our mission will be to create a program and environment that ensures success as a person, student and athlete. We want players to be more successful in college and life beyond because of the principles, values and skills they were able to develop at Bridgton Academy” said Coach Warde upon his hiring.
Warde arrived in North Bridgton, ME after spending the previous two years at The United States Military Academy at West Point as an assistant hockey coach. He served as Army’s Chief Recruiter and was involved with all facets of the Black Knights Program. The Rockport, MA native has developed a reputation as a passionate recruiter and innovative coach during his nine years as a Division 1 college hockey assistant coach at Iona College (1997–99), The United States Military Academy at West Point (1999–2003 & 2011–13) and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (2010–11). Warde worked in the private sector from May 2003–July 2010 in a corporate sales role in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
Warde is known for getting his players to believe in themselves, instilling the desire to succeed and driving his players to overachieve. His former players speak of their coach’s caring nature and his personal investment in their success.
Warde is a 1993 graduate of Iona College where he played forward and served as a co-captain his Senior year. He received the “Pride, Hustle, Desire Award” during his time with the Gaels. Warde began his coaching career at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, NY before heading north to Alaska and coaching the Alaska All Stars and Robert Service High School.
Coach Warde and his wife Angela are proud parents of sons Brayden and Hudson. They reside on the Bridgton Academy campus.
