Bridgton Academy Welcomes New Director of Academic Support

Bridgton Academy announces the appointment of its new Director of Academic Support, Ms. Courtney Breslin.

Courtney, who hails from Chebeague Island, Maine, will bring a wealth of expertise with her when she officially assumes her role at the Academy on August 3rd.

A graduate of both the University of Vermont (BA, Psychology) and the University of Southern Maine (MS, Adult and Higher Education), Courtney is also a certified TESOL instructor; having earned her TESOL certificate in 2004 from the Prague Language Centre in the Czech Republic. Most recently, Courtney completed an Academic Success and the Student-Athlete certificate course. She is currently pursuing her Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.) in Counseling, with a concentration in School Counseling.

Courtney’s varied and impressive repertoire includes experience as an Academic Advisor [Student Success Center, University of Southern Maine (USM)]; Lecturer (USM); College Conversations Coordinator (USM); Professional Academic Mentor [New England College (NEC)], ESL Instructor (Prague Language Center); and Life Skills Coach for students with Asperger’s (USM).

Throughout her professional career, Courtney has worked closely with a variety of learners, including student-athletes and students with learning disabilities. She has been honored by USM (Emerging Staff Professional Award; 2013) where she developed an “Academic Recovery Program” for at-risk students, and designed course curriculum around effective learning strategies, decision-making and career exploration. The award highlighted her commitment to community engagement and service. She has also implemented evening workshops on study skills, writing skills and support in academic courses. In addition, Courtney has served as the athletic department’s liaison to ensure student-athletes were meeting NCAA requirements (USM). Throughout her work in higher education, Courtney has also been a member of several committees tasked with identifying and assisting at-risk students.
