September 11, 2017
MILTON, MA –
Two touchdown passes from Joe Bernard (Bishop Brady HS, NH) were not enough for the Wolverines to overcome as Bridgton Academy dropped its season opener to the Curry College JV 20-14 in Milton on Sunday.
Trailing 7-0 midway through the 2nd quarter, Bernard connected with WR Johnny Rosario (Thornton Academy, ME) on 35 yard scoring play while Emmett Peoples (Scarborough, ME) added the PAT sending the team into the locker room at halftime tiedat 7-all. Down 20-7 late in the 4th, Bernard’s 25 yd toss to Johandy Gonzales (North Andover, MA) put the Wolverines back in contention but the Colonials were able to run out the clock.
The Wolverines “Black Shirt†defense forced 4 turnovers on the day as Jamal Williamson (Bethlehem Freedom, PA) and Ben Antione (Medford MA) each recorded interceptions and Dave Salazar (Newton North, MA) & Quinn Almeida (Bishop Stang, MA) came up with fumble recoveries. Jeff Wheeler, (Hanover, MA) turned in a solid performance form his outside LB position as well.
The Wolverines Special Teams efforts were led by Austin Brown (Houlton, ME) Gonzalez, and Chet Kogut (George School, PA). Bridgton Academy returns to action next Sunday against Nichols College in Dudley, MA.
