Bridgton Academy Hockey heads to Norway Savings Bank Arena for satellite “Home Game” against Middlesex Black Bears

–NORTH BRIDGTON, ME — Bridgton Academy’s Junior Hockey team will call Auburn, Maine’s Norway Savings Bank Arena home for one night, February 12 at 7pm, when the Wolverines take on the Middlesex Black Bears Junior team. The game will be the centerpiece of the inaugural “Bridgton Academy Auburn Classic”, where Bridgton Academy faculty, students and admissions staff will be on hand to not only watch the game, but also interact with Maine high school hockey players and coaches, shedding light on what it means to take a postgraduate year at Bridgton.

Bridgton Academy has held home games at satellite locations in the past, but this is the first time that Bridgton is hosting an entire evening’s worth of events along with the Wolverines taking the ice. Director of Admissions Chris Webb, along with other Admissions representatives, will hold a Q&A session before the game at 6pm to answer questions about Bridgton Academy’s unique postgraduate program. Postgame, there will be an alumni meet-and-greet where current players and parents can meet with Bridgton Academy graduates, as well as potential students and those interested in learning more about the Academy.

“This is an awesome chance for us to get out in the local community and show people what Bridgton Academy is all about,” said Director of Admissions Chris Webb. “Bridgton offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for young men, and we are excited to share more about our program with Maine hockey families.”

The Auburn Classic is the brainchild of Bridgton Academy Director of Hockey Operations Mike Warde, and Prep Head Coach Stan Moore. “Maine has a rich hockey tradition, and we felt that we needed to do a better job of reaching out and letting the Maine hockey community know about our own tradition here at Bridgton Academy,” said Warde. “We’re hoping that with this event we can tap into that hockey tradition here in Maine and educate local high schools and high school players about the unique postgraduate mission of Bridgton Academy.”

The Bridgton Academy Junior Hockey team is, along with the Prep team, part of Bridgton’s Hockey program. The two teams play separate schedules, beginning in September and stretching through late February, with both squads traveling throughout the Northeast and Canada. The programs offer an intense, college-like experience, and puts the players in front of countless college coaches and showcases to help them find the right home following their year at Bridgton Academy. The current team is comprised of players from all over the United States, as well as Canada, Australia, Latvia, Israel, the Czech Republic and the Ukraine.

“I’m very pleased with our team chemistry following our recent trip to Vermont and Quebec, Canada,” said Mike Warde, Director of Hockey Operations and Junior Team Head Coach. “The team is coming together at the right time, and has really responded well to adversity on and off the ice. Middlesex is a fast, hard-hitting team, and we’re going to need to be at our best on February 12.”

Along with the Wolverines vs. the Middlesex Black Bears, there will also be a special “Bridgton Academy Squirts Showdown”, with two local Squirt teams taking the ice to play during halftime of this two-period game.
